Rupee Strengthens Against US Dollar Amid Crude Oil Price Volatility
The Indian rupee appreciated by 3 paise to close at 95.42 against the US dollar on Friday, August 14, 2026. The rupee's strength can be attributed to the weakness of the greenback against major rivals overseas.
According to forex traders, the rupee remained under pressure due to foreign fund outflows and rising crude oil prices amid geopolitical uncertainties. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.39 and traded in a tight range of 95.38 to 95.44 before ending the session at 95.42.
Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst, Commodity and Currency at LKP Securities, commented that the rupee traded with a weak bias this week but remained largely range-bound. Crude oil prices have surged around 25% in July and continue to remain elevated, putting pressure on import costs for the rupee.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback's strength against six major currencies, was trading 0.08% lower at 99.78. Brent crude futures were higher by 0.99% at $87.93 per barrel.
