Rupee Surges 22 Paise Amid RBI Intervention and Softening Dollar
The Indian rupee rose 22 paise to 96.51 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, buoyed by RBI intervention and a softer greenback.
After global crude oil prices crossed the USD 100-mark due to heightened tensions in West Asia, the RBI stepped in to stem the rupee's further slide.
FII outflows and sustained equity market declines continued to exert downward pressure on the rupee.
The dollar index was trading marginally down at 101.43, while Brent crude oil prices rose 0.12% to USD 100.8 per barrel in futures trade.
