Rupee Surges on Strong Inflows and Slowing US Inflation
The Indian Rupee (INR) has strengthened against the US Dollar (USD), reaching its two-month high of 94.29 on Thursday. The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Foreign Currency Non-Resident (B) scheme has seen strong inflows, bolstering the RBI's reserve buffers and intervention capacity.
Fed Governor Christopher Waller stated that recent data indicates signs of slowing inflationary pressures, which led to a decline in the US Dollar. Traders now see a one-in-two chance of a Fed interest rate hike at the September meeting, down from two-in-three before Waller's speech.
The upcoming US Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) data for August is expected to be a major driver for the USD's outlook. Analysts note that the latest US labor market read from ADP did little to dispel concerns about cooling demand.
