The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, rising 28 paise to 96.25.

This gain comes as crude oil prices fell sharply and global sentiment improved following an easing of tensions between the US and Iran in West Asia.

The dollar index retreated from its elevated level, while domestic equities saw a strong buying trend, further supporting the rupee's strength.

The rupee opened at 96.18 but later traded at 96.28 against the greenback, logging a gain of 28 paise from its previous closing level.
