The Indonesian rupiah strengthened against the US dollar on Thursday, gaining 0.47% as markets digested Bank Indonesia's new governor Destry Damayanti's first day in office and weaker US labor market data.

Destry, who officially began her tenure on Wednesday, pledged to keep monetary policy responsive to economic challenges while maintaining stability and supporting growth during her confirmation hearing.

Currency analyst Ibrahim Assuaibi noted that the rupiah's gains also came as markets withstood pressure from escalating tensions between the US and Iran, which could disrupt oil supplies from the Middle East.
