Rwanda Secures $190 Million Yen-Denominated Financing from World Bank
Rwanda has secured $190 million in financing from the World Bank Group, marking its first borrowing in Japanese yen. The 15-year facility will support Rwanda's general budgetary needs and fund key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
About half of the financing, approximately $95 million, will be raised in Japanese yen, making it Rwanda's first entry into the yen-denominated debt market. This move aims to diversify Rwanda's currency exposure and strengthen its engagement with Asian investors.
The remaining financing is comprised of an €82 million tranche, valued at around $95.55 million. The facility includes a six-year grace period, meaning Rwanda won't begin repayments until after its outstanding $620 million international bond matures in August 2031.
