Ryanair Currency Snafu: Paying in Euros Can Save You Money

Ryanair flyers may be losing money on their next flight due to a simple currency choice. Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert team suggests paying in the 'right' currency, rather than sticking with the default, to save money.

The trick is easiest to spot when you split your trip up and treat it like two separate one-ways, instead of one neat return booking. This allows you to compare prices in different currencies and potentially find a cheaper option.

MoneySavingExpert claims that paying with Euros can be the sweet spot, while other currencies may actually increase costs. In their spot check, they found that on some routes, paying in Polish Zloty was 3.72% cheaper than paying in pounds, while paying in Hungarian Forint was 2.13% more expensive.

One warning is to ensure your card doesn't come with foreign transaction fees, often around 3%. Using travel-friendly accounts or fee-free options from traditional banks can help avoid these extra costs.
