Ryanair Flyers Can Save Big by Paying in the Right Currency
Ryanair flyers may be leaving money on the table when booking their next flight, according to Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert team. The trick is to pay in the 'right' currency instead of sticking with the default. This can result in significant savings, especially for pricier flights.
MSE claims that by treating a return trip as two separate one-way bookings, passengers can avoid Ryanair's conversion rate and use their bank's exchange rate instead. For example, a Warsaw to London flight would cost £55.09 in GBP but only £53.04 in Polish Zloty, saving 3.72%. Similarly, an Ibiza to London flight would be £82 in GBP but just £77 in Euros, a savings of 6.1%.
This method is easiest to spot when the return leg of the flight shows up priced in the currency of the country you're flying home from. MSE advises searching for the outbound flight as a one-way ticket and then comparing it with the standard return price. However, this only works if your card doesn't come with foreign transaction fees.
