S&P 500 Hits Record High Amid Weaker Jobs Data
The US stock market closed higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 hitting a record high as investors reacted to weaker-than-expected US jobs data.
According to recent figures, the US economy unexpectedly shed jobs in July, easing expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in September. This led to gains across major indexes, including the S&P 500, which rose 46.48 points or 0.60% to close at 7,756.44.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq Composite also saw significant increases, gaining 151.33 points or 0.28% and 338.81 points or 1.29%, respectively.
