S&P 500 Recovers Slightly Amid US-Iran Tensions, Rising Treasury Yields
The S&P 500 index recovered slightly on Wednesday after falling 0.71% in the previous session due to rising Treasury yields and higher oil prices amid renewed US-Iran tensions.
Investors remained focused on the impact of rising energy prices on inflation, the Federal Reserve's interest-rate outlook, and upcoming US employment data.
The benchmark index gained 8.22 points, or 0.11%, to 7,639.69 at 9:56 a.m. ET, with technology and AI-related stocks providing support.
Nvidia rose 1.2% after investors continued to show optimism for the AI trade, which remains in its early stages according to Thomas Kikis of Standard Chartered.
The S&P 500's 2026 gain is still above 11%, despite recent volatility caused by higher yields, rising oil prices, and geopolitical uncertainty.
