The S&P 500 index has reached an all-time high of 7,814.88 in mid-August 2026, surpassing its previous record. This milestone comes on the heels of lower-than-expected inflation data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) reports.

The CPI report showed a month-over-month inflation rise of just 0.1 percent in July 2026, with an annual inflation rate of 3.4 percent. This moderation in consumer prices has alleviated concerns about persistent price pressures that had plagued markets earlier in the year.

The Federal Reserve maintained its target federal funds rate at 3.50 percent to 3.75 percent after its July 2026 meeting, citing growing confidence that inflation is moving toward its 2 percent target. This extended pause in monetary tightening has provided a degree of certainty for investors and markets.
