Saskatchewan Seeks Enhanced Federal-Provincial Partnership for Infrastructure Development
The Government of Saskatchewan is seeking enhanced federal-provincial partnership for infrastructure development. Premier Scott Moe has written to Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC) Minister Gregor Robertson, endorsing three major regional projects under the Build Communities Strong Fund's Direct Delivery Stream.
The proposed projects include a Downtown Event and Entertainment District in Saskatoon, a Prince Albert Convention and Cultural Event Centre, and a Battlefords Arena and Event Centre. The province has committed to cost-matching federal contributions up to one-third of eligible project costs if the projects receive funding approval.
The Saskatchewan government believes that these infrastructure projects will meet the needs of growing communities, create new economic opportunities, and deliver long-term benefits for the regions they serve. Saskatoon Mayor Cynthia Block expressed gratitude for the province's commitment to the Downtown Event and Entertainment District, which she said would strengthen the city's economy, support housing and downtown growth, and attract major events and conventions.
