Saskatchewan Tops Canada in Building Permit Growth with Record-Breaking Jump
Saskatchewan's economy is booming, with new data showing it led Canada in building permit growth last month. The province saw a 101.6% increase in the total value of building permits from May to June, seasonally adjusted, surpassing all other provinces.
This strong performance marks Saskatchewan's second-strongest year-over-year increase, with a 90.3% rise between June 2025 and June 2026. Building permit values include both residential and non-residential construction projects and are considered an indicator of future construction activity.
Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding praised the numbers, saying they demonstrate confidence in Saskatchewan's economy. 'Today's Statistics Canada numbers show Saskatchewan is leading the country in building permit growth, a clear sign that people and businesses have confidence in our province and its economy,' he said.
