Saskatchewan Unemployment Rate Dips to Third-Lowest in Canada with Strong Job Growth
Saskatchewan's economy has shown significant growth, with an unemployment rate of six per cent placing it third-lowest among provinces. The province added 2,600 jobs this year, a 0.4 per cent increase from the same period last year.
The private sector led the way in job creation, with 10,300 new positions added since July 2025, representing a 2.7 per cent increase. The construction sector was particularly strong, adding 4,600 jobs alone, while accommodation and food service added 4,200 and finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing added 2,000 jobs.
Young people also saw an uptick in employment opportunities, with 1,500 jobs added for those aged 15 to 24 and 3,900 jobs added for those aged 25 to 54. Immigration and Career Training Minister Eric Schmalz noted that Saskatchewan's economy is strong, citing recent numbers from Statistics Canada.
