SBI Takes 20% Stake in Ajaib for $270M Yen Stablecoin Push
SBI, a major Japanese financial group, has made a significant investment in Ajaib, an Indonesian fintech and crypto platform. The deal sees SBI take a 20% stake in Ajaib for $270 million.
The strategic partnership gives SBI access to Indonesia's growing mobile financial services market and Ajaib's local distribution and customer base. In return, Ajaib gains the expertise of a major financial group with experience in digital assets and payments.
SBI has been developing JPYSC, a yen-denominated stablecoin initiative, which could benefit from the partnership with Ajaib. However, adoption will depend on local rules, distribution partnerships, and practical demand for yen exposure.
