Schnabel May Leave ECB Early for IMF Role
Isabel Schnabel, a European Central Bank board member and head of market operations, is reportedly in talks to leave the bank early for a senior role at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to German newspaper Handelsblatt, citing government sources, Schnabel may depart before her term ends in Frankfurt. The IMF's Monetary and Capital Markets Department has been vacant since Tobias Adrian left at the start of the month.
The ECB spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, as did the IMF. Schnabel's term runs until an unspecified date. Her role as a hawkish policy member may be significant in this context, as she has taken a more conservative stance on monetary policy.
