The European Central Bank's Isabel Schnabel may leave her position early to take up an offer from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to a report by Handelsblatt. The German newspaper cited government and finance sources in its claim, which suggests that Schnabel could be leaving her post as executive board member before her term ends on December 31, 2027.

Schnabel's potential departure would have significant implications for the ECB, particularly with regards to German representation at the bank. If she leaves, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel would become the only remaining German candidate in the running to succeed Christine Lagarde.
