Seed and Grain New Zealand (SGNZ) has released a manifesto calling for stronger support from government for its sector. According to SGNZ, the seed and grain industry underpins New Zealand's food and fibre economy, generating around $340 million in annual export earnings.

The industry president, Ed Luisetti, emphasized the importance of recognizing the strategic value of this sector. He stated that while often overlooked, the sector provides essential inputs for dairy, sheep, beef, and horticultural production across New Zealand.

The manifesto identifies four priority areas for government action: building a resilient and sustainable arable sector, creating more value through investment in innovation and genetics, ensuring a competitive and connected seed trade system, and investing in freight and infrastructure to enable growth.
