Senate Rejects Digital Asset Market Clarity Act Amid Crypto Market Volatility
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act failed to advance in the US Senate on Tuesday after falling short of the required 60 votes. The legislation had been a long time coming, with negotiators from both parties working on over 600 pages of compromise legislation.
Despite efforts by Senator Cynthia Lummis to secure support, the bill ultimately didn't pass. This is a setback for the crypto industry, which has been lobbying for clarity and regulation. Without it, the SEC and CFTC will continue to develop regulatory initiatives without legislative backing.
Crypto markets felt the pressure as Bitcoin fell below $76,000 after the Clarity Act vote failed. Ethereum also declined 3.9% to around $2,440. The market is already under pressure ahead of Wednesday's Federal Reserve decision, with a quarter-point rate increase likely.
