Former Bank of Japan Assistant Governor Tokiko Shimizu is now leading EmEco Corporation, where she's working to unlock women's potential in engineering and business leadership.

Shimizu represented Japan at over 100 international conferences during her tenure at the Bank of Japan. She noted that these events were incredibly diverse, bringing together people from various backgrounds and perspectives.

In contrast, Shimizu observed that meetings in Japan often felt monochromatic, with discussions dominated by individuals from similar schools and companies. However, she sees flexibility as one of Japan's greatest strengths and a key driver of its growth.

Shimizu believes that the challenges surrounding diversity extend beyond women's advancement to include cultural monoculturalism, a stagnant social system, and debates over diversity itself.

To address these issues, Shimizu is focusing on individual mindsets and social environments. She emphasizes the importance of one-on-one dialogue in creating meaningful change.
