Ottawa has appointed Evan Siddall as the inaugural chair of Build Canada Homes. Siddall, a former CEO of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. from 2013 to 2021, has been named to lead the affordable housing agency's board of directors.

Siddall's experience includes heading up Alberta's AIMCo pension fund manager and stints at Goldman Sachs and Irving Oil. He also served as special adviser to former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney for a number of years.

The Liberal government launched Build Canada Homes nearly a year ago, but the agency became a Crown corporation in June, which requires an independent board of directors. Siddall will exercise the board's powers unilaterally until at least eight directors are appointed through a process that has yet to conclude.
