Skynest Bunks Revolutionize Long-Haul Economy Travel
Air New Zealand is set to launch its innovative Skynest product in December 2026 on flights between Auckland and New York. The bunk bed system, located between Economy and Premium Economy cabins, offers passengers a lie-flat bed without the hefty Business Class price tag.
The six sleeping pods are stacked three bunks high on either side of the cabin, with each pod measuring roughly 2 meters in length and 64cm wide at the shoulder. The mattress is plush, and each pod comes with a full-size pillow, fitted sheet, and blanket, which are refreshed between sessions.
Passengers also receive a Nestcessities amenity kit with an eye mask, earplugs, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, and hand cream. However, the pods have limited storage space, and only small items are allowed, with water being the only drink permitted.
The price for a dedicated Skynest sleep session is $495, regardless of currency, giving passengers a four-hour window of uninterrupted rest before returning to their assigned seat. While getting in is snug, once you're lying down, it beats a vertical Economy seat by a mile.
