SNB Posts Record Profit Amid Strong Stock Market Performance
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) reported a significant profit of 25.2 billion Swiss francs in the first half of 2026, following a loss in the first quarter.
This reversal was largely due to the strong performance of the stock markets in the second quarter, which boosted the SNB's profits significantly.
The bank's foreign currency positions resulted in a profit of 31.7 billion Swiss francs, driven by capital gains on equity positions and favorable exchange rate movements.
However, the SNB's gold holdings incurred a valuation loss of 6.4 billion francs, as the price of gold declined over the course of the year.
