South Island Business Leaders Unite for Economic Growth
Business leaders in the South Island of New Zealand have come together to launch a joint manifesto calling for policies that boost productivity and drive economic growth. The eight chambers of commerce, representing around 7,000 businesses, aim to increase the region's GDP per capita to at least $130,000 by 2035.
The manifesto's goal is to make the South Island the engine room of New Zealand's economy. Business Canterbury CEO Leeann Watson says that if New Zealand wants stronger productivity, higher incomes, and greater resilience, backing the South Island is the smartest investment.
