Speculators Flush Yen Shorts Amid Dramatic Positioning Shift
The US dollar against the Japanese yen has seen significant movement over the past couple of weeks. Data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shows that a substantial portion of this shift was driven by speculators closing out their short positions in the yen.
According to the CFTC, net speculative positioning in the USD/JPY market swung dramatically from around 92,000 contracts short to almost 11,000 contracts long in the week ending September 8. This indicates a massive shift among speculators, who had been betting against the yen.
The scale of this move is enormous and suggests that speculators may have been caught off guard by the recent rally in the dollar.
