The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York recently hosted an event at Aprio's headquarters to explore the potential of stablecoins. According to Maisie Ho, head of the office, international wire transfers could become a thing of the past within 10 years due to the growing use of stablecoins.

Stablecoins are tokenized digital assets pegged to the value of a fiat currency or commodity and have gained popularity in emerging-market economies like Latin America and Africa. They offer benefits such as smooth cross-border commerce, instant settlement through public blockchains, and reduced fees and delays compared to traditional banking.

Chris Maurice, founder and CEO of Yellow Card, stated that stablecoins have reached 'critical mass' with big players like Cash App, Visa, Western Union, and others using its global USD accounts for remittances and cross-border transactions. However, Yiming Yang, co-founder of Loyal Trust Bank, noted that the use cases for stablecoins still need to catch up to the technology's full promise.
