State of Origin Rugby League Match Coming to New Zealand in 2027
New Zealand will host its first-ever State of Origin rugby league match in 2027, with Auckland's Eden Park set to stage Game Two of the series on June 16.
The historic fixture is expected to attract over 10,000 Australian visitors and generate an estimated $17.4 million for the New Zealand economy, making it one of the country's biggest international sporting events of the year.
Tourism Minister Louise Upston described securing the match as a major milestone for New Zealand's events sector, citing the large following in Australia and among rugby league fans internationally.
The Government expects the benefits to extend beyond ticket sales, with travelling supporters typically spending on accommodation, food, transport, entertainment, and other tourism experiences during their stay.
