States Sue Trump Over New Tariffs Amid Forced Labor Allegations

Twenty-five states have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its latest tariffs, which they claim are a pretext to replace import taxes struck down by the Supreme Court in February.

The new tariffs, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, target countries that provide nearly all of America's imports, including the European Union and 59 other nations.

According to the lawsuit, the administration is using Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 as a basis for imposing the tariffs, which were imposed in response to alleged forced labor practices.

However, the states argue that the government has not adequately established its case against each specific economy and failed to spell out how the tariffs will eliminate the specified practice.
