Sterling Struggles to Find Footing Ahead of Fed and BoE Decisions
The British Pound Sterling has been largely unaffected by recent data releases and central bank decisions. Despite firmer-than-expected domestic numbers, including a 1% rise in June retail sales, the currency remains pinned beneath its converged moving average band at around 1.3400.
With no clear catalyst for the pound's recent decline from its mid-July peak near 1.3550, analysts are interpreting the market's silence as a sign that it has already priced in the expected outcome of this week's Federal Reserve and Bank of England decisions.
The absence of any significant price movement on Monday suggests that traders are waiting for one of these central banks to make their move. With interest rate futures indicating a near 36% chance of a hike at Wednesday's meeting, the dollar is likely to remain strong in the short term.
