Sterling's Recovery May Be Short-Lived as BoE Trails Peers
The recent recovery of the GBP/USD currency pair to its current level around 1.3566 may be fragile and short-lived, as the Bank of England (BoE) is expected to lag behind other major central banks in tightening monetary policy.
This upward movement can be attributed to the unwinding of long USD positions driven by a persistent global inflation narrative that has bolstered hawkish expectations for central banks across developed markets.
However, this shift poses a risk of sidelining sterling in comparison to its peers, as other major central banks, such as the Fed, ECB, BoC, and even the traditionally cautious BoJ, are expected to adopt more hawkish stances.
The UK's inflation rate remains high at 2.9%, while growth concerns stemming from high borrowing costs are choking off investment and consumption, contributing to increased fiscal anxiety.
