Sterling's Winning Streak Ends Amid US Rate Concerns
Sterling saw its three-day winning streak against the dollar come to an end on August 3, dropping 0.18% to $1.3457. The British currency also fell versus the yen by 0.50%, hitting a low of 211.11, its lowest since March 5.
The decline was attributed to investors focusing on the US interest rate path and the Bank of England's patient stance on rates. The BoE kept interest rates on hold on Thursday, awaiting a clearer sense of inflation risks. Deputy Governor Clare Lombardelli stated that her decision to keep rates steady had not been difficult.
The new British government's cautious fiscal stance, which included budget cuts announced by Finance Minister John Healey, helped ease investor concerns and temporarily support sterling late last week.
