Strategy Builds Cash Reserves Amid $2B Raise, Leaves BTC Holdings Unchanged
Strategy, the world's largest public company holding Bitcoin, has made significant adjustments to its cash reserves and investment strategy. The company raised approximately $2 billion through common stock sales between August 17th and August 23rd, with no new Bitcoin purchases during this time.
The funds were used to repurchase about 1.43 million of Strategy's STRC preferred shares for $136.4 million, add $300 million to its US dollar reserve, and direct the remaining proceeds to a newly launched US dollar cash account.
As of Sunday, Strategy reported $5.1 billion in its reserve and $1.59 billion in the new cash account, bringing its total cash across both pools to $6.69 billion. The company stated that this cash pool gives management more flexibility to respond to market conditions and can fund purposes including Bitcoin purchases, preferred-stock dividends, debt payments, and securities repurchases.
Strategy's Bitcoin holdings remain at 840,447 BTC, acquired for $63.36 billion at an average price of $75,385 per Bitcoin. The company initially established its US dollar reserve in December 2025 with $1.44 billion to support preferred-stock dividends and interest payments on outstanding debt.
