Strong Dollar Lures Americans to Canada Despite Trade Tensions
Travel trends between Canada and the US have been influenced by political tensions in recent years. In early 2025, trade disputes prompted Canadians to avoid American products and rethink vacations south of the border. However, Americans are still flocking to Canada, with a 13% increase in visits to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Sean Buckland, owner and CEO of Ambassatours Gray Line, attributes the growth to two factors: the strong US dollar against the Canadian dollar and the city's welcoming hospitality. 'There is no question that Americans are taking advantage of the exchange rate and the increased value of the American dollar,' Buckland said.
American cruise passengers also praised Canada for its natural beauty and friendly people. Gary Charland, a passenger from Palm Springs, California, stated, 'We very much enjoy coming to Canada. We very much feel that Canadians are not only our neighbors, but also our partners.'
