Summer Market Sizzle: Yen Interventions, Inflation Data, and Iran-Oman Talks

Markets aren't taking a summer break, despite it being mid-August. There's plenty of market news to watch, including possible U.S.-Japanese intervention to support the yen, key economic data, and developments in the Iran-Oman negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz.

The yen has been languishing at four-decade lows, making fuel imports more expensive during an energy shock. A recent joint U.S.-Japanese intervention may have eased Tokyo's concerns, but FX traders still have unanswered questions about whether Japan's central bank is preparing a September rate hike and the use of euros in the U.S. intervention.

Investors are also watching for developments in the Iran-Oman talks, which could lead to an interim deal giving Tehran control over the Strait of Hormuz. However, expectations that any agreement will hold remain modest, given Yemen's recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and tankers in the Red Sea.
