Sunday TACO Sparks Rally in Euro, Sterling as Energy Prices Plummet

Another round of positive headlines from the Middle East has lifted the euro and sterling, causing energy prices to plummet. The familiar market reaction to Sunday's ceasefire announcements, dubbed a 'Sunday TACO' by traders, saw equity futures surge and the US dollar weaken against the euro and British pound.

The recent conflict in the Middle East appears to have developed an implicit reaction function around Brent crude prices. Prices below $70 a barrel seem to invite renewed escalation, while moves above $100 have been met with efforts to de-escalate. This new dynamic may be influencing market behavior, rather than simply reflecting geopolitical risks.

From a technical perspective, the EUR/USD and GBP/USD pairs remain in downtrends, despite Monday's rallies. The H4 charts suggest that selling on rallies is still the preferred strategy for both pairs. The daily charts show that both currencies are below their 50, 100, and 200-day moving averages, which continue to slope lower.
