SUSE Targets Australian Industrial Edge for Growth
SUSE is shifting its focus towards Australia's industrial edge to drive growth in the region. The company, known for its Linux heritage, aims to expand beyond its traditional European stronghold by targeting industries such as mining, transport, energy, and maritime operations.
Ben Henshall, ANZ General Manager at SUSE, noted that Australia's geographically dispersed economy and reliance on physical infrastructure create an opportunity for edge computing technologies. The company believes its existing expertise in lightweight Linux and Kubernetes gives it an advantage in these environments.
The Losant acquisition has been used to build out the industrial edge business, which is seen as a major opportunity by SUSE executives. They expect AI inference to become increasingly important as enterprises look to process AI workloads closer to where data is generated.
The company's strategy is based on three areas of edge computing: telecommunications, general edge infrastructure, and industrial edge. SUSE is also positioning itself as an alternative to established virtualisation platforms following widespread customer concern over rising costs and licensing changes in the market.
