Swiss Bankers Predict SNB Interest Rate Freeze Through 2027
Swiss bankers predict that the Swiss National Bank (SNB) will keep its key interest rate at 0% for the rest of this year and into 2027, according to a survey conducted by the Swiss Bankers Association. This forecast suggests that there will be no change in monetary policy until next year.
The survey results show that all bankers surveyed expect the SNB to maintain its current rate at 0% for the remainder of 2026. In addition, 60% of respondents anticipate that the interest rate will remain unchanged in 2027, while 40% predict a rate hike next year.
The majority of those expecting a rate increase forecast an interest rate of 0.25%, with one respondent predicting a higher rate of 0.5%. Markets are also pricing in a high probability of no change in the SNB's policy rate at its upcoming monetary policy update on September 24, with a 97% chance that rates will remain unchanged.
