Swiss Banking Scandal Unfolds as Mirabaud & Cie Faces Bribery Allegations
A shocking bribery scandal has rocked the Swiss banking industry as Pierre Mirabaud, formerly associated with Mirabaud & Cie, has confessed to his role in a multi-million franc scheme. The 77-year-old's actions led to illicit payments totaling 82.3 million Swiss francs aimed at securing lucrative deals with a Kuwaiti official.
The alleged corruption occurred between 2000 and 2012, during which time Mirabaud orchestrated hundreds of payments in an attempt to attract substantial business to the bank.
Mirabaud & Cie has been penalized by FINMA, Switzerland's financial overseer, with the confiscation of profits and a highlighting of systemic regulatory gaps. The bank, led by its founding family's sixth generation, is navigating the fallout and emphasizing past cooperation with regulatory authorities.
