The Swiss economy has experienced its fastest growth rate in nearly five years, according to the government. The second quarter of 2026 saw a 1.5% increase in economic activity, outpacing the first three months of the year when growth was just 0.5%. This acceleration was driven primarily by the chemical and pharmaceuticals sector, which grew by an impressive 10.5%, reflecting higher exports and sales.

The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) noted that while growth in the rest of manufacturing was moderate, services showed modest but broad-based growth. The resilience of the Swiss economy has been a welcome surprise, especially given challenging conditions like sharply rising oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties.

Analysts are optimistic about the prospects for continued growth, citing the recovery of European industry as a key factor in Switzerland's economic performance. Thomas Gitzel, VP Bank analyst, noted that if the European single market gains momentum, the Swiss economy will also benefit from it this year.
