Swiss Franc Hits New Lows Amid US-Iran Tensions
The Swiss Franc (CHF) has hit its lowest level in August against the US Dollar (USD), reaching 0.8150 for the first time since late July. This decline is attributed to a mix of risk aversion and rising hopes of Federal Reserve tightening, which is buoying the US Dollar across the board.
The recent tensions between the US and Iran have also contributed to this trend, with markets maintaining their bets on a Fed rate hike at the September 16 monetary policy meeting. In contrast, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) is expected to leave its benchmark interest rate on hold at 0% on September 24.
Technical analysis suggests that the USD/CHF pair has reached overbought levels and may be ripe for consolidation or a bearish correction. If it confirms above mid-August highs at 0.8145, the next upside targets are the July 30 high at 0.8175 and the year-to-date high at 0.8207.
