Swiss Franc Loses Ground Against Euro Amid Easing Global Tensions
Switzerland's strong currency, the franc, has been steadily depreciating over recent months. In January 2026, it reached its highest level in more than a decade against the euro, with a value of 0.9167. This was due to Switzerland's low inflation rate and the franc's reputation as a safe haven during times of high uncertainty.
However, since March, the franc has been losing value, reaching its lowest point in 12 months on August 14th at 0.9405 against the euro. According to Cash, the reason for this decline is the easing of tensions in the Gulf region, which reduces the franc's appeal to international investors.
The current exchange rate means that residents can get 1.06 euros for 1 franc, a 2.79-percent decrease in value compared to earlier this year. Although the franc remains stronger than the euro, the weaker currency may make shopping in neighboring countries more attractive for those earning their salary in euros.
