Swiss Franc Rises Against US Dollar Amid Fears Over High US Debt
The Swiss Franc is experiencing an upward trend against the US Dollar, following a corrective move on Thursday. The US Dollar's appeal has been dampened by ballooning government debt levels and expectations that interest rates will not be cut in the September meeting.
Rising US debt levels have led to a decline in the value of the US currency. The US Treasury Department recently announced plans to double the pace of its debt repayment, which initially caused a sharp drop in US Treasury yields and the US Dollar.
However, bond yields have largely recovered from their losses, with financial markets warning that the government's bond-buying plan is only a temporary solution. Strategists at Brown Brothers Harriman note that 'the Treasury buyback is essentially a debt-management swap,' which does not significantly reduce total debt but shifts its composition.
