Swiss Franc Tumbles Amid Fed Rate Hike Expectations and SNB Stance
The US Federal Reserve's (Fed) upcoming interest rate hike has put pressure on the Swiss Franc, pushing it near yearly lows. The Fed is expected to raise rates on Wednesday due to inflationary pressures exceeding its 2% target, with futures markets pricing a nearly 90% chance of a rate hike.
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is unlikely to follow suit, maintaining its benchmark interest rate at 0% until mid-2027. This divergence in monetary policy has led to interest rate differentials favoring the US Dollar, further weakening the CHF.
Ahead of the SNB's decision, producer and import prices in Switzerland accelerated by 0.7% in August, exceeding expectations but failing to alter the view that the bank will maintain its steady policy.
