Swiss Inflation Eases to 0.4% in July Amid Cheaper Fuel
The Swiss inflation rate cooled down in July, reaching an annual growth of 0.4%. This decrease is attributed to cheaper petroleum products and seasonal clothing discounts that pulled overall prices lower.
The data from Switzerland's Federal Statistical Office, reported by Reuters, shows consumer prices were 0.4% higher than a year earlier, down from 0.5% in June and in line with forecasts. Prices also fell 0.1% from June to July as petroleum products slipped 0.7% on the month and summer sales cut clothing and footwear prices.
Although the headline number appears calm, it hides some moving parts. Heating oil rose from the prior month, and petroleum products were still up 13.6% year-on-year. This highlights that global energy swings can quickly show up in Swiss inflation even when the overall trend is mild.
