Swiss Top Court Upholds E-ID Vote Amid Transparency Concerns
The Swiss Federal Supreme Court has put an end to legal challenges against last year's electronic identity referendum. The court ruled that procedural missteps by campaign finance watchdogs and media companies do not invalidate the democratic outcome.
The decision, handed down on April 21, struck down most of the submitted complaints on procedural grounds. Judges determined that a significant portion of the appellants had failed to file their objections within the legally mandated windows, making substantive review impossible.
At the heart of the substantive claims lay accusations that two major media houses, Ringier and TX Group, provided in-kind support during the campaign without proper disclosure. The combined value of these undeclared services reached 163,000 Swiss francs.
