Switzerland Sees Strongest Quarterly Growth Since 2021
The Swiss economy has experienced its strongest quarterly growth in nearly five years, according to recent data from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The country's gross domestic product rose by 1.5% in the second quarter of 2026, exceeding expectations and marking a significant improvement over the previous quarter.
The economic expansion was broad-based, with industry value added increasing by 3.9%, manufacturing growing by 4.5%, and the chemical and pharmaceutical sector experiencing a notable jump of 10.5% after several weak quarters. This growth can be attributed to stronger exports, as overall goods exports grew by 5.5%.
However, inflation remains a concern in Switzerland, with prices rising by 0.8% year-over-year in August, above forecasts and the previous month's rate of 0.4%. The increase in inflation has investors weighing whether the country's strong economic activity can offset higher prices.
