Sydney Restaurateur Valentine Yee Avoids Imprisonment Over False ICAC Testimony
Sydney restaurateur Valentine Yee has avoided imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of giving false or misleading evidence at a public hearing of the New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).
The court imposed a two-year community correction order on the 52-year-old Yee, who admitted to signing a false declaration to conceal the true origin of a 100,000 Australian dollar donation to NSW Labor in 2015.
Judge John Sfinas noted that there were two false statements: concerning a sham 5,000 Australian dollar donation and a 10,000 Australian dollar donation from the Emperor’s Garden restaurant.
