Taiwan Dollar Tumbles Ahead of U.S. CPI Data Release
The U.S. August Consumer Price Index (CPI) data is due to be released tonight, and markets are on high alert for signs of inflationary pressure.
Foreign investors have been pulling out of Taiwan's stock and currency markets, causing the Taiwan dollar to tumble by as much as 1.5 cents against the U.S. dollar on the 11th.
The decline narrowed to a final loss of under 1 cent at the close, with the currency settling at NT$31.638.
Combined turnover in the Taipei and Yuan Tai forex markets surged to $3.792 billion, underscoring risk-aversion sentiment ahead of the inflation reading.
