Taiwanese Markets Plummet Amid Heavy Selling Pressure
The Taiwan stock market and currency plummeted on Monday, with the Taiwan Weighted Stock Index falling by over 300 points to close at 45,862.52.
The Taiwan dollar also suffered a significant decline, closing at NT$31.688 against the U.S. dollar, down 5 cents from its previous value.
This downturn is attributed to heavy selling pressure in Taiwan stocks and depreciation pressure on the Taiwan dollar due to foreign investor positioning and overall equity market sentiment.
The Federal Reserve's upcoming policy meeting this week is expected to have a significant impact on the direction of the Taiwan dollar, with markets broadly anticipating a quarter-point rate hike.
