Taka Among Region's Most Stable Currencies
The Bangladeshi taka has emerged as one of the most stable currencies in South Asia, depreciating by just 0.59 percent against the US dollar over the past year, according to a report from Bangladesh Bank.
This is despite India experiencing the sharpest depreciation, with its rupee losing 8.94 percent of its value against the US dollar during the same period.
According to the central bank's data, only Cambodia performed slightly better, with its currency weakening by 0.44 percent.
The relatively limited depreciation of the taka is attributed to Bangladesh Bank adopting a more market-based exchange rate regime and tightening monetary and foreign exchange management to reduce volatility in the currency market.
